Introduction

The genus Osmodes comprises of 15 species, all of which are entirely African in distribution.

Osmodes omar is found from Sierra Leone to Congo, Uganda and northern Tanzania.

Habitats

This species is found along logging roads and forest edges, and is probably more abundant in secondary forest than in untouched rainforest.

Lifecycle

The larval foodplants include Marantochloa, Thalia and Thaumatococcus ( Marantaceae ).

Adult behaviour

The butterflies are usually seen singly, often in the company of other Osmodes species. They bask on bushes, or on the lower foliage of trees.
