Introduction
There are at least 1038 known species of Grass Skippers (
Hesperiinae ) found in the neotropical region. Many of them are dull
brown in colour, and virtually devoid of recognisable markings. Some
genera however such as Pompeius are
easy to recognise due to strongly patterned undersides, or because
they have a distinctive configuration of pale spots at the apex of
the forewing.
There are 6 species known in the genus
Pompeius, one of which, verna is
found as far north as the USA. The remaining 5 species are
distributed variously from Colombia to Bolivia.
Pompeius pompeius occurs from Colombia
to Brazil and Peru.
Habitats
This species is found in degraded forest, and forest-edge habitats,
at elevations between sea-level and about 1000m.

To be completed.
Adult behaviour
Both sexes are usually encountered as singletons, resting on the
foliage of bushes in forest-edge habitats.
