Pseudopieris nehemia, Satipo, Peru  Adrian Hoskins
Introduction
The subfamily Dismorphiinae, to which the Wood Whites of Europe belong, has its headquarters in South America, where 51 different species are found. The neotropical genera include Dismorphia, Enantia, Lieinix, Patia, Moschoneura and Pseudopieris.
The genus Pseudopieris comprises of 2 species - viridula and  nehemia, both entirely neotropical in distribution. Both species are reminiscent of the holarctic genus Pieris, and of the neotropical genus Melete, but can be distinguished from both of them - and all other Pierinae - by their distinctive venation and drooping black antennae ( Pierinae have straight antennae, usually with pale tips ).
Pseudopieris nehemia is found from Mexico to Argentina. There are 11 subspecies, 5 of which occur in Peru.
Habitats
This species breeds in rainforest and transitional cloudforest habitats at altitudes between about 100-1200m.
Lifecycle
To be completed.
Adult behaviour

Both sexes are usually seen singly, flying along forest trails, or at rest on low foliage.
