Introduction
There
are 11 known species in the genus
Adhemarius,
which is confined exclusively to the neotropics.
All are large moths with a wingspan of 10-14cms. The pattern of dark brown
markings on the thorax and the base of the forewings is common among all the
members of the genus, but the size and shape of the markings varies from species
to species. The apex of the forewings is notched in all species. The hindwings
of most species are pink at the base, suffusing to yellowish at the outer
margins. Many
Adhemarius
also have a pattern of dark radiating lines on the hindwings.
Adhemarius tigrina
is found Colombia to Bolivia.
Habitats
This is a cloudforest species normally found at altitudes between 1000-2200m.
