Introduction

There are about 6000 known species of Arctiinae in the neotropical region. Most are noxious to birds and have aposematic or diematic warning coloration.

There are 4 species in the genus Cratoplastis, distributed variously from Mexico to Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. All 4 species have elongated ovoid brown forewings with a broad creamy-yellow costal band. In all species the thorax is marked with a pair of large red spots.

Cratoplastis diluta is the commonest and most widespread species. It occurs throughout Central America and the tropical regions of South America.

Habitats
This species is found in cloudforest habitats at elevations between about 800-2500m.
