unidentified Lasiocampidae species, ref 609, Rio Alto Madre de Dios, 550m, Peru

Introduction

The photograph above depicts a very worn specimen of Lasiocampidae, but is sufficient to illustrate several of the family characteristics. The long upcurved tufts at the tip of the abdomen, the general wing shape and colour, and the hunched resting posture are all typical of the Eggars, Lappets and Koala moths which comprise the Lasiocampidae.

I have not yet been able to identify the genus.
