Introduction
 
There are 56 known species in the genus Symphlebia, all of which are restricted to the neotropical region. They are striking in appearance, all species having a yellow ground colour, marked with small hyaline spots and dark areas edged with red. Most also have a skull-like marking on the thorax.
 
Habitats
 
This species occurs in rainforest and cloudforest habitats at elevations between about 500-3000m, on the eastern slopes of the Andes and the upper Amazon basin.
