Monday 20th January
Sightings reported from Hampshire included a Speckled Wood seen at
Pitts Wood, a Peacock at Portsdown Hill, and a Red Admiral at Lee on
Saturday 11th January
An Speckled Wood was seen today at Southampton in Hampshire.
This is an extremely early record for this species, which normally
begins to emerge in March.
Friday 10th January
Red Admirals were seen flying today at Friston Gallops, Itford Farm
and Stansted Forest in Sussex; at Leatherhead in Surrey; and at
Llandybie in South Wales. The first Small Tortoiseshell of the
year was seen basking on the Icknfield Way in Oxfordshire.
Thursday 2nd January
There were several reports today of Red Admirals seen as
singletons in various parts of Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of
Wight. Furthermore a Brimstone was seen in flight at
Southampton, a Comma was on the wing at Kithurst Hill in
Sussex, and a Peacock was seen at Iver in Bucks.
