Introduction
The subfamily Coeliadinae comprises of about 150 species worldwide. They are the most primitive of the skipper subfamilies. There are 8 genera - Allora from Australia; Pyrrhiades, Pyrrhochalcia and Coeliades from Africa; and the Oriental genera Badamia, Choaspes, Bibasis and Hasora.
The genus Bibasis consists of about 20 species distributed from India to Australia. Most species are dark brown above, and on the underside have pale bands on the hindwings, often with a metallic green or purplish sheen.
Bibasis sena is a common and very widespread species found in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, the Philippines, Palawan, West Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi and Java.
Habitats
This species is found in glades and clearings in rainforest and humid deciduous forest at elevations between sea level and about 600m. It is often found close to rural habitations.
Lifecycle

The larval foodplant is Combretum ( Combretaceae ).

Adult behaviour

Both sexes fly mainly at dusk and dawn, although they can be seen during the daytime if conditions are overcast. They fly very rapidly, usually keeping close to the ground.
