"promoting the conservation of butterflies and their habitats throughout the world"
"entertaining and educating butterfly enthusiasts at every level"

learnaboutbutterflies.com is a comprehensive website with a well founded reputation for accuracy. It is widely recognised as an important information resource for schools, colleges and universities. It has a substantial following amongst amateur / professional entomologists, ecology students, nature reserve managers, wildlife writers, eco-tourism researchers, and natural history photographers. It also acts as a portal to wildlife and conservation organisations worldwide, via the Links page.

Since it's launch in December 2006 it has grown to become one of the most popular natural history websites in Britain. It has a large following in Europe and the USA, and attracts regular visitors from as far away as Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Malawi and Tanzania.

Unfortunately, creating and expanding a website costs money. The cost of domain names, website hosting, software, equipment maintenance, research, editing, uploading, and generally running a high quality website adds up to about £500 per annum. Your webmaster also gives up an enormous amount of time, much of which could otherwise be spent earning money.

Sponsorship from individuals or Companies is therefore extremely welcome. Any amount, large or small, will be put to the best possible use, encouraging conservation, educating, entertaining, and helping to make this the best butterfly resource on the internet !

Donations in the form of butterfly books, photographic equipment, computer equipment etc are also extremely welcome, so if you have anything surplus to requirements that you think might be useful, please contact me with your offer.

I will acknowledge all sponsors and donors on the Home page, and will gladly include links to your own business or personal website.

If you would like to help, please send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to discuss how the money or equipment will be used to improve and expand learnaboutbutterflies.com.

learnaboutbutterflies would like to express our sincere thanks to Bernard d'Abrera for his very generous donation of 11 volumes from the indispensable series "Butterflies of the World". These are of immense value as tools for the identification of species photographed for this website, and help ensure that species surveys supplied to the managers and owners of nature reserves are as accurate as possible.

I am very pleased to include a short autobiography of Bernard, who is probably the most well known and highly respected entomologist in the world, and author not only of the "Butterflies of the World" series, but also of "Birdwing Butterflies of the World", "Hawkmoths of the World", "Saturniidae Mundi", and the scholarly and controversial "Concise Atlas of Butterflies of the World", which includes many stunning photographs of butterflies in their natural habitat, as well as a huge selection of set specimens.

The volumes which I do NOT yet have, are :
Neotropical 11 ( Danainae, Heliconiinae, Ithomiinae )
Australian
Afrotropical 1
Afrotropical 11

If anyone would like to donate or sell any of the above volumes to learnaboutbutterflies, please contact me.
