Current Status
learnaboutbutterflies.com
is the most complete and authoritative on-line resource dealing
with Lepidoptera worldwide. It aims to promote the conservation of
butterflies, moths and their habitats; to illustrate and describe
a large and representative selection of the world's species, and
to provide detailed, accurate information about all aspects of
their lives. It uses a style of presentation designed to entertain
amateur enthusiasts, but also to provide clear, highly detailed
and accurate data for those involved in scientific research.

Butterflies of the
British Isles
- 64 species accounts published, covering all the resident
species and most migrants. All accounts are fully illustrated with
photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats.
During 2010 all articles will be updated to incorporate new observations and improved / additional
photographs. |
|
Butterflies of
the Amazon and Andes -
Following our 3rd expedition to Peru in June 2010, about
370 of the most beautiful or interesting species are
now illustrated and described on the
website. Photographs and species articles can be accessed either from the Butterflies of Amazon
& Andes gallery,
or via the Species Index. This section is currently undergoing
expansion. |
|
Butterflies of
Malaysia & Borneo -
Following our 3rd expedition to Malaysia in May 2009, about 85 of
the most beautiful or interesting Malaysian species are now
illustrated and fully described on the website. Photographs and
species articles can be accessed either via the Butterflies of Malaysia & Borneo gallery,
or via the Species Index. |
|
Butterflies of West
Africa -
only 6 species accounts have so far been published, each
illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their
natural habitats. All of my African photographs were taken on film
cameras, but I now have access to a high quality film
scanner, and when time permits I expect to add many of
these scanned images on the website. |
|
Butterflies of
Europe
- Currently 117 species are illustrated, giving fairly
representative coverage of the fauna of western Europe. I have
about 50 more species photographed on film, and now have access to
a high quality film scanner, so when time permits I expect to
incorporate many of the images into the website. |
|
All other sections
of the website
- all pages are continually and regularly expanded and updated as
further information and photographs become available. |
