"Total visits" represents the accumulative total of pages visited by all users of this website.

Butterflies of the British Isles - 59 species accounts published, covering all the resident species and regular migrants. All accounts are illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats. As the 2008 season progresses additional photographs and data will be included.

Butterflies of Amazonia - 68 species accounts published so far, illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats. More accounts will be added, with the aim of covering at least 80 species by the end of 2008.

Butterflies of the Andes - 61 species accounts published so far, illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats. More accounts will be added, with the target of covering about 80 species by the end of 2008.

Butterflies of Malaysia & Borneo - 15 species accounts published so far, illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats. More accounts will be added in due course.

Butterflies of West Africa - only 6 species accounts have so far been published, each illustrated with photographs of living butterflies in their natural habitats. More accounts will be added in due course.

Butterflies of the French Alps - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

All other sections of the website - all pages are continually and regularly expanded and updated as further information and photographs become available. Many more sections are planned, dealing in greater detail with more specialist subjects.

Ideas for the future - this is an INTERACTIVE website, so if you have any suggestions for improving existing pages, or ideas for further sections, please contact me and I'll see what I can do !

Targets for 2008

My main priorities for the remainder of 2008 are :

To carry out further field studies of British butterflies, and incorporate my findings in the individual species accounts. The aim is to keep the word count at it's current level, but to incorporate a lot more interesting and relevant information, with more concise presentation.

To improve the quality and diversity of the photographic content. The aim is to include about 6 high quality images of each species, using new photographs to replace some of the lower quality images currently used. It will also involve more images of moths, caterpillars, predators, habitats and other relevant material throughout the website, so every page is constantly evolving.

To expand the species coverage. A planned trip to Peru in September should provide more images and descriptions for the Amazon and Andes galleries. The ultimate aim is for these and all other galleries to each cover about 100 of the most colourful or interesting species in each area. Some existing pages dealing with duller or less interesting species may be deleted.

To improve the appeal of the website to a broad spectrum of users. This may involve more quizzes, FAQ's and "Strange but True" material for younger or less experienced users; better explanatory material to allow less experienced users to progress their knowledge; and more field observations and specialised data for ecologists.

To use attractive images, interesting observations and other devices to attract high numbers of visitors, and hopefully to interest this captive audience in rainforest issues by means of concise, interesting and informative articles about rainforests and tropical butterflies, up to date information and advice about conservation issues, and links to e-protests and rainforest conservation websites.

Other ideas under consideration include :

Occasional use of supplied images or data to cover subjects or species for which I currently have no material. I will consider any contributions offered.

Scanning of some of my 7000 film images of tropical and temperate butterflies, for incorporation in the West Africa, Malaysia / Borneo and French Alps galleries. This requires me to obtain a high quality film scanner, and is dependent upon sponsorship.

Design improvements to make the site visually more attractive and user friendly.
